GFRP composites can be molded into complex shapes, allowing for customized designs that cater to specific mining requirements.

This flexibility is ideal for the creation of equipment that is tailored to fit tight spaces, unique geometries, and challenging layouts – optimizing the overall efficiency of mining operations.

GFRP Advantages for Mining

GFRP composites possess remarkable strength-to-weight ratios, making them capable of withstanding heavy loads and harsh conditions commonly encountered in mining operations.

  • Corrosion-resistance.
  • Lightweight for fuel efficiency.
  • Low thermal conductivity.
  • High strength.

Examples of Composite Development Projects for Mining

Self-drilling Hollow Rockbolt

In conjunction with Hilti, we developed a superior one-step self-drilling rock bolting system using GFRP (glass fiber-reinforced polymer) that is corrosion-free and has high resistance to shock loading, torsional and shear strength. It is also easy to install, can be cut through easily, and poses no risk of sparks. This was the result of almost three decades of product development in rock bolts for mining.

Blast Curtains Structural Support Rod

Our blast curtain rods are made of lightweight, high-strength GFRP composite and come in 4m and 8m lengths. They serve as a protective screen during underground detonations, replacing steel that corrodes quickly and is heavy. The high flexural properties of the hollow rod allow it to return to its original shape following a blast.
